In a thrilling match at The Oval on Monday, India defeated England by six runs while defending a target of 374. The brilliant bowling spells by Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna played a key role in the win. Their efforts helped India level the five-match series and deny England a series victory.

A solid partnership from Yashasvi Jaiswal, alongside support from others, helped India set a challenging total of 396 after being bowled out for 224 in the first innings. England, after gaining a slim first-innings lead, looked poised for victory with centuries from Root and Brook on day four. But a fiery late spell by Siraj, Krishna and Akash Deep turned the tide.

England Reels on Day Five

When play resumed on day five, England needed just 35 runs with only four wickets left. Early pressure from India came as Siraj removed Jamie Smith cheaply. He then dismissed Overton, trapping him leg-before to leave England reeling at 354/8. Prasidh Krishna then bowled Josh Tongue for a duck, bringing the match down to the final wicket.

Chris Woakes, injured and batting awkwardly, came to the crease but could not reverse England’s fate. A quick six from Gus Atkinson raised hopes, but Siraj had the final word, sending Atkinson back to seal India’s miraculous six-run win.

Heroic Spells from Siraj and Krishna

Mohammed Siraj wreaked havoc with figures of 5/104, while Prasidh Krishna took 4/126. Their combined effort disrupted England’s chase and gave India one of their most memorable Test wins. This result not only showcased Indian resilience but also levelled the series.
